...combination of story and music has loads of appeal.Dec 02, 2009 This is the original PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY review: "In this third title in the charming Froggy's Country Storybook series, the classic tale of a misfit who learns the importance of inner beauty gets a decidely down-home twist. Froggy, a cowboy-hat-clad tree frog with a hankering for stories, introduces this "ribbiting tale" read by country performer Clark. Mama duck, board silly with sitting on the one of her eggs that won't hatch, breaks into a verse of "I Try to Think About Elvis." And when the so-called ugly duckling flees the harassment of the barnyard, he heads for the "Come On Inn," where he sings "If Bubba Can Dance (I Can Too)." Snippets of several other contemporary country hits are also woven into the clever retelling, delivering 20 minutes of music in all. The satisfying, if slightly silly, combination of story and song has loads of appeal. Though country music fans will certainly find much to love here, this solid production will have other listeners tapping their toes as well. Note: the accompanying Country Storybook contains an abridged text. Ages 2-up. (Feb.)"
teacher gives A+Aug 09, 2001 I am a teacher of first graders and my class and I both enjoyed this CD. It is just the right combination of country hit music and folktale storytelling by different voices. The music portions are not full length but perfect to support the story. Good use of humor throughout. Could easily be adapted for a charming play.
